Hello you!
I just watched Cherrybomb and I’m amazed! Amazed by how crappy the film was really. So much pointless violence, unnecessary bad language, too much drugs and such a weak story! I have the impression I got everything wrong cause I’m so disappointed! The high points of the movie should be the strong friendship between Malachy (Rupert Grint) and Luke (Robert Sheehan) and the love triangle I suppose. But none of that were any appealing to me.
Two things saved it though. First was Rupert’s acting which was great as always (no suprise!) and second is the way they show the text messages characters exchange during the movie which was quite creative.
I think film companies make a huge mistake by delaying film releases so much cause the audience starts to develop expectations that many times won’t be fulfilled. But then again I think it wasn’t released because the film hasn’t had good acceptance in festivals. Maybe I’m not the only one who didn’t like it.
Let’s pray that Rupert picks better scripts next time!
P.S.: Don’t treat me bad because of this review. This is just my opinion and I’m sure half of the world disagrees with me. I feel bad for not liking it and for writing a negative review but I still tried to highlight the positive things about the film. I would love to read your impressions on the film!

This is the transcription of what I just told a friend(excuse me for any grammar mistake):
“I can’t tell that it didn’t worth to watch, and I’m really glad that I did, but it’s not what we can call a “masterpiece”, and honestly, I don’t think it’s all too bad for had passed so many difficulties trying to find distributors.
Sincerely after all what we read about it, I wasn’t expecting so much and even talked about this some time before with some friends that if the movie was only being analyzed by “fans” and if it was really good like the fans who watched it were saying.
What impressed most on it and my biggest conclusion was that I found out that I really don’t like Robert Sheeham.
I think Luke could give a good character but he made it looks, for me, so annoying that was hard to see his parts. I thought, at first that was the character but then I noticed was his way to act and remembered him wanting to speak more(if it was something impossible) than Rupert in the interviews they gave and I came to the conclusion that it’s him.
I don’t like Michele and don’t think is a female character strong enough to be in the middle of such dispute. Also I think Kimberly is very weak as actress and I watched an indie movie on TV some days ago which she made the same kind of character, a very futile girl and she was also terrible.
Now Malachy has still something sweet on it, but I also think because it’s the “easy way” of Rupert to talk, walk, look. He’s also a character that has nothing admirable on its personality, so easy manipulated, but it kinds of conquest your affection because of Rupert acting which I still think wasn’t too much pushed away with this film, but one of the best things on it.
Don’t have to say that I only understand about 50% what is said on it and Luke’s father, well couldn’t understand a single word of what that man was saying!
One think that I like very much was the photograph, maybe the best thing on it, technically speaking.
The story should need more “rebel” moments to sound convincing in what they proposed with the plot they created. When I read it I was thinking in something more like “Telma & Louise”, with guns, knifes fights, stealing drugstores, etc.
But for now, the next times I will watch it(and I will) I’ll skip all the parts and only watch Rupert on it.”
Seriously Lilly?! You said everything I wanted to say but couldn’t because of my difficulty with words and English hehehe!
I thought I was easily frustrated by Luke cause I kind of imagined him as Tom Sturridge ( http://flowpattz.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/tom-sturridge-1.jpg ) for some reason o.O
The girl should support the whole story yet everything seemed to be about Malachy right?!
I didn’t think I wasted my time watching it but I’m frustrated cause it could be so good and I wish Rup was in a more successful film.
I agree to EVERYTHING you said!
Yeah, the main plot description says about “two friends competing, trying to conquest the love of a girl”, but it really is more about the friend and the girl trying to win Malachy’s attention, which after all it makes more sense since he seems to be the characters who has more good points in his favour.
I just finished watching it like 15 min ago and i have to agree, i was disappointed. There’s not much character development and the plot while promising falls flat.
.-= Pynki´s last blog ..Day 3 - Is there any of the film adaptations that have made you angry because they’ve ignored important parts of the book =-.
I know what you mean! There’s a lot of films with ordinary plots but are so beautifully made they totally win the audience. But not this one :/
I haven’t watched it and won’t, probably because this type of movie doesn’t really appeal to me that much. It’s disappointing though, getting so much hype about a movie that turns out not to be so good.
.-= Abby´s last blog ..I could speak till nothing’s left unspoken =-.
Yeah! The trailer tricked everyone into thinking it’d be good. It sucks big time!
Hey Lely,
I’m curious about this movie, and I like your review. I hate unnecessary bad language too.
Unnecessary bad language is just a detail in this movie cause the story is pointless!
