Have you ever heard of The Thousand Origami Cranes legend?
An ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a wish by a crane, such as long life or recovery from illness or injury. The crane in Japan is one of the mystical or holy creatures (others include the dragon and the tortoise), and is said to live for a thousand years. In Asia, it is commonly said that folding 1000 paper origami cranes makes a person’s wish come true. This makes them popular gifts for special friends and family.
Origamis work for me as a therapy. I don’t make them very often but when I do have time I always feel the need to look for DIY stuff and I always end up looking for origamis. They take patience, practice and concentration. I think I might just make use of some old magazines I have in my wardrobe.

I only know how to make tsurus, the cranes. And I did 1000 tsurus… but… I don’t know if my wish came true! D: mwauheua

Have you ever heard of that book “Sadako and the Thousand Cranes” or something like that? I read that book and heard of the legend and wanted to fold a thousand cranes so that my ear (it was born deformed, deaf) could get better. I was like….8? I don’t know how many I got before I stopped. To this day I absolutely love origami, and cranes most of all.

A thousand cranes is A LOT! I certainly would love to fill my bedroom with some colourful cranes. They make me smile for some reason :)

eu era super viciada em origami, a ponto da minha mãe brigar comigo pra eu ir estudar e parar de dobrar papel.. haushashasu. serio, eu tinha assim uns 13-14 anos
tinha um canal, o discovery channel, que sempre passava tutorial de origami.. so sei que eu sabia fazer muuuuitas coisas.. Mas, como eu segui o conselho da minha mãe, fui estudar e esqueci qs todos =((

I love origami cranes, as well as the stories behind them. I used to be able to make them when i was younger, but I don’t really remember anymore.

They are so beautiful, I haven’t tried to make them in over ten years, I should pick it up again they are a great relaxing hobby that makes you use many elements of the mind you don’t normally. *huggles*

I was just going to mention the same book that Abby did: “Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes”. It’s about a girl named Sadako who fell ill from the effects of the atomic bombs and went to make a thousand paper cranes for her wish to be cured. It’s a great read, and I hope that even though it’s written for children, that you pick it up.
